The management of the Hurghada Festival for Youth Cinema has chosen critic Mohamed Sayed Abdel Rahim to assume the task of artistic director of the festival in its first session, which will be held from 21 to 27 September.
Scriptwriter Mohamed El Basousi, head of the festival, said that choosing “Abdul Rahim” is in line with the goal of launching the festival, which is characterized by the spirit of youth and innovation in its management, programmes, films and honors.
He explained that the artistic director of the festival has finished developing a comprehensive vision for the form of the festival, which will be revealed successively during the next few years.
For his part, critic Mohamed Sayed Abdel Rahim confirmed that the festival is a great opportunity for every young cinematic talent, and that all its windows are open to receive their creativity.
He said: The door for submission to receive participating films will be announced during the second half of next April in all festival competitions, which are the feature film competition, the short film competition, and the student film competition, in addition to the environment award, which will be granted to the film that participates in the festival’s competitions and calls for preserving the environment. .
It is noteworthy that the critic Mohamed Sayed Abdel Rahim is a member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Film Critics Association and participated in the judging committees of the Fibresci competitions in many international festivals in Egypt and abroad, the most recent of which was the Luxor African Film Festival this year. He holds the position of Vice President of the Arab Film Competition at the Red Sea Film Festival in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in His credit as the author of several cinematic publications, including a book on Khairy Bishara’s cinema
Hurghada Youth Film Festival
It is sponsored by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and the Red Sea Governorate and organized by the Arts Foundation for Culture and Media, headed by writer and screenwriter Mohamed El Basousi, former head of the National Cinema Center.
Its first session will be held during the month of September 2023, and it includes more than one competition for long and short films, graduation projects for students of institutes and specialized film academies, and a special award is given for the best film that calls for preserving the environment.
